Uncle Matt’s Adds International Flavor To The Mix

Uncle Matt’s is partnering with Agrinova, a co-op of small organic growers in Sicily to bring premium organic Sicilian blood oranges to the American consumer. The oranges will be available starting the week of March through April.

Founded in Sicily more than 20 years ago, Agrinova farms their crops in the nutrient-rich volcanic soil near Mt. Etna.

“I personally went to Sicily to inspect their farms and meet their growers,” says Matt McLean, CEO of Uncle Matt’s. “Not only do we share the same organic growing philosophy, but we share the same high standards in growing practices and were able to exchange knowledge and ideas involving organic citrus production.”

Originally from Italy, blood oranges carry a tangy citrus flavor all their own. The fruit’s noticeable red color comes from anthocyanin, which is also an antioxidant that carries multiple health benefits. Both Tarocco and Sanguinello varieties will be available for sale and are 100% USDA certified organic.
