Florida Citrus Growers Vie For Chance To Plant Experimental Selections

Florida Citrus Growers Vie For Chance To Plant Experimental Selections

Several statewide meetings have been scheduled for Florida growers interested in planting new, promising citrus varieties.

FAST TRACK, a cooperative effort of New Varieties Development & Management Corp., the Florida Foundation Seed Producers Inc. (FFSP), and UF/IFAS, provides commercial citrus growers the chance to register to plant experimental selections for trial and evaluation.

The FAST TRACK program’s third suite features four seedless easy-peel mandarin selections.

The first suite of nine selections was offered in August 2013. The program resulted in 61 registered grower trial sites. The second suite of three selections was offered in July 2014, resulting in 45 registered grower trial sites.

All interested commercial citrus growers should plan to attend one of the meetings. A presentation will explain details about the program and registration documentation will be distributed. Representatives from the UF/IFAS Plant Improvement Team and/or FFSP also will be present.

Citrus Extension agents are encouraged to attend.

Each meeting will last approximately one hour.
