Cities’ Mayors Wager Produce In WNBA Championship

A season’s worth of fresh produce from local farms is on the line in the Women’s National Basketball Association championship series between the Minneapolis-based Minnesota Lynx and the Atlanta Dream. Mayor R.T. Rybak of Minneapolis and Mayor Kasim Reed of Atlanta placed the friendly wager on the best-of-five series which began Sunday night on Minneapolis’ home court, the Target Center.

Mayor Rybak’s SweeTango apples from Pepin Heights Orchards in Lake City, MN are an even exchange for Farmer D Organics Garden Center’s peaches from Atlanta, but both sides are confident that they won’t be giving up a bite of their prized produce without a fight.
“The Lynx are just three wins away from bringing the championship home to Minneapolis,” stated Mayor Rybak confidently, “and we as a city are united in cheering them on as they close out an exciting and historic season.” And, not to ignore the fruit hanging in the balance, “we’ve had good luck with SweeTango apples so far, too, so I’m sticking with them as well.”
Mayor Reed had something to say to that, retorting, “Mayor Rybak knows that there is more than one way to skin a cat, so we’ll put up our peaches against their apples any day. The Atlanta Dream is on a hot streak right now, winning all but three games since August 13. They have just three more wins before they bring home the championship.”

With more than just trophies and titles on the line, victory is sure to be sweet.
