Farmers Market At The White House

There has been some speculation recently that President Obama is looking to get a “little farmers market set up outside the White House.”

According to the Washington Post, there is an actual plan in the works. Dupont Circle Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) commissioner Victor Wexler confirmed that FreshFarm Market has proposed putting a market on the 800 block of 16th St., NW, about one block from the White House. It would be open Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 to Oct. 29.

If ANC does support the new farmers market, FreshFarm will still have to apply for city permits. “We think there is some potential, but there is a lot of work to do, and a lot of it is sensitive,” says FreshFarm co-founder Ann Yonkers. “Right now, it’s premature to talk about it.”
