Farm marketing and agritourism continue to grow in popularity, and perhaps nowhere is this more evident than in Michigan. The “Farm Market and Agri-Tourism Directory,” which is offered by the Michigan Farm Market and Agri-Tourism Association (MI-FMAT), reached a new high of 80,000 copies in distribution this year.
The guide includes information on 270 agritourism operations across the state, Companies are listed by region, and the guide is used by consumers looking to find farm markets, U-pick operations, and other destinations.
Several organizations partner with MI-FMAT to distribute the directory, including 13 welcome centers, the Michigan Farm Bureau, and the Michigan Apple Committee. This year, MI-FMAT was also awarded a Specialty Crop Block Grant that will help expand the size and scope of distribution at hotels across the state.
For 2010, sales of new listings (at a cost of $100_ are ahead of pace, and “the goal is to have printed copies available in May when asparagus introduces the Michigan farm market season,” according to MI-FMAT president Steve Tennes.
