Analyzing Apple Harvest Management Tools

Lengthening shelf life and stopping the production of ethylene in apple are two benefits of using ReTain in harvest management plans. Michigan State University (MSU) Extension agents suggests using ReTain at a full rate split into two sprays at 30 and 14 days before harvest. Add NAA at 20 ppm with the spray 14 days before harvest.

ReTain delays apple maturity and is dose-dependent and time dependent. A spray at full rate will give maximum delay of maturity, whereas a half-rate spray will only give half maturity. MSU Extension agents recommend using a full rate of ReTain 30 days before harvest. A grower can use ReTain 14 days prior to harvest or split applications.
