Penn State To Host Fruit Quality Seminar

The Penn State Fruit Research and Extension Center in Biglerville is hosting a grower workshop on Tuesday, Dec. 18, that is designed to help growers learn best practices for growing a high-quality fruit crop in 2013. “Focus on Fruit Quality & Safety” is an in-depth workshop for commercial fruit producers that will address horticultural practices that affect fruit quality and ensure product safety. Topics include:
• Horticultural Practices Focused on Fruit Quality
• Food Safety as Part of Your Business Plan
• Effective Use of Plant Growth Regulators
• Monitoring Fruit Maturity for Optimum Marketability

Featured Penn State speakers are Dr. Rob Crassweller, Professor of Horticulture, and Dr. Jim Schupp, Pomologist and Director of the Penn State Fruit Research and Extension Center. Growers will also share their perspectives on both fruit quality and food safety.

An afternoon session will be held in the field, and the topic is “Pruning for Fruit Quality.”
