Desmond Layne continues to get the word out about peaches during this growing season. The Clemson University horticulture professor and American/Western Fruit Grower “Stone Fruit” columnist recently appeared on two Sunday morning broadcasts on WYFF in South Carolina. With the peach season starting early in the Southeast this year, Layne encouraged consumers to get out to their local roadside markets and buy peaches while they are at their highest quality.

The first segment highlighted Layne’s recent trip to the Republic of Georgia, as well as what consumers should look for when they want the “perfect” peach. The second segment focuses on the friendly peach rivalry between South Carolina and Georgia, and why consumers should visit roadside markets.
