Biodegradable Twine For Greenhouse Use

Elite Bio Twine, a biodegradable twine for greenhouse-grown peppper and tomato crops, is made of sustainable Ingeo Pla, that is a soft and flexible, UV-resistant material. Made by Lankhorst Yarns of the Netherlands and Portugal and available from A.M.A. Hydroponics, the twine is said to be strong enough to handle the life of a pepper or tomato crop (excluding beefsteak) with minimal degradation during the crop life. The twine degrades in a compost pile in seven weeks, which is a benefit in crop disposal.

According to A.M.A. Hydroponics, there can be significant cost savings with Elite Bio Twine, especially when combined with The Bio-Clip, a certified compostable clip from Deleco bv of The Netherlands. Growers can cut the vines from the growing media overhead wires, then roll out the crop with the twine and clips for composting. It can mean a large reduction in labor and disposal and the end product can be put back into use as compost.
