A significant area of research at the station is developing varieties suited for production in protected agriculture environments. William “Skeeter” Bethea, a product specialist for Enza Zaden, says he has been collaborating with growers to develop an economically viable protected ag program for Florida.

Going Green
Green Machine, a new zucchini squash from Enza Zaden, was featured in field trials. It will be a good fit for growers in Florida and is widely adaptable to other regions, according to company representatives. The variety produces high yields with medium-dark green fruit with light flecking. It also has a good disease package.
