EPA Extends Comment Period On Proposed Clean Water Rule

The deadline for growers, ranchers, and other interested parties to comment on the EPA’s “Waters of the U.S.” proposal was July 17, but this week EPA extended the deadline to Oct. 20. This proposal reportedly would give the EPA more control over private property, including streams, ditches, ponds, and other local bodies of water.

According to Bob Stahl, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation, the extension is good news for agriculture. “This is a victory for farming families and a clear signal that America’s farmers know how to stand up and be counted.

“EPA has misled the regulated community about the rule’s impacts on land use. If more people knew how regulators want to require permits for common activities on dry land, or penalize landowners for not getting them, they would be outraged. …”

“The new schedule gives us until October 20 to comment on the Waters of the United States rule, and until July 7 to comment on the accompanying interpretive rule. Rest assured we will use that time to its best advantage. We will ditch this rule.”

Commenting on an attempt to illegally takeover landowner property rights? Really? The EPA is a lawless, unelected arm of big government. The activity they are attempting has been struck down by federal courts three times now.

This type of attempted land grab by the feds will only end when we elect people who will cut off the money that is funding this monster called the EPA.

I don’t stoop to the level of commenting on attempted illegal action. I call my congressman fill his ear with my comments about how this EPA beast is circumventing private property rights. I then add that if he does not act on reigning in this illegal behavior HE will no longer have a job come the next election cycle.

THAT is how you stop this type of illegal activity at the EPA. The EPA itself cares nothing about our input. It is a formality for them.

This could have terrible adverse affect on farms. EPA has an agenda that could ultimately destroy farms. They live in a world where money is an open check book . We farmers have challenges that are very difficult to manage on a day to day bill to bill basis. They don’t relate to the concerns we have as farmers the same way. Farmers have to already care about there water, land and natural resources to survive. The balances we as farmers face daily are huge and timely. EPA doesn’t understand this concept or care too. If you can’t comply Oh well too bad you wouldn’t have made it anyway. Who’s getting sick from all this filty dirty water and where is it. Still not seeing the problem. No Farms, No Food Think of that problem. Most farmers are managing on tight margins it won’t solve anything, prevent anyhing, and will cost the government more wastful spending. The equation is already there leave it alone to the Farmers the true conservationists.

This is what we get when we look to govt to solve our problems. The American citizen has unwittingly unleashed a monster. What started as good intentions has become the opposite which will always be the case when we allow others to take care of what we should be taking care of. People with their own agenda and unaccountable to the masses are now in a position to impose their ideas on the rest of us. You don’t have to look far to see other examples of this in such areas as illegals as farm workers, the Food Safety Modernization Act, and paying farmers to not grow crops or subsidizing them to grow certain ones. Finally, we get what we sow. Look in the mirror.
