Food Safety Modernization Act Comment Period Extended

In response to a letter sent April 11 by vegetable and fruit industry groups, FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg, announced that FDA will extend the comment period for the Food Safety Modernization Act by another 120 days.

Originally, the comment period was to end on May 16.

“The additional comment period is necessary to ensure that these rules are effective, efficient, and serve the interests of the entire supply chain and our consumers,” United Fresh CEO Tom Stenzel said in response to the April 11 letter.
