The five-year collaboration will focus on broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, and spinach. Plant breeding will be used to improve the nutrition, flavor, color, texture, taste, and aroma of these vegetables. Any new products realized from this collaboration could be commercialized by Dole in North America.

“The consumer wins because Dole’s market knowledge combined with our research and development capabilities will help bring new healthy and flavorful products to consumers,” said David Stark, vice president of consumer traits at Monsanto. “We are very excited and pleased to bring this focus to our business via this collaboration with Dole and its strong brand.”

“Dole prides itself on innovation and bringing consumers high quality, nutritious, and great-tasting products,” said Roger Billingsley, senior vice president of research & development for Dole Fresh Vegetables. “We are looking forward to collaborating closely with Monsanto to do just that.”

Do you know what a GMO is? Its the future to feed the world at an affordable price and safely.
Let me ask you this question. Would you rather eat an ear of sweet corn sprayed 12-15 times with pesticides or one with a gene transfer from another edible plant , but never sprayed?

Let’s not forget that these “Frankenfoods” as MS. Wagstaff referred to have been thoroughly tested and approved by several governmental agencies. If it wasn’t safe to consumers… it won’t be released. And Mr. Scott – Big brother has to eat too

Yeah Dave, Like we trusted them on the drug Viox or DDT when it was released. Haven’t you figured out the government has its own agenda and has nothing to do with safety of the consumers. They release it and 10 years down the road after it has hurt people they decide it needs to be taken of the market. By then the chemical companies have made their millions. And as far as the GMO is safe we haven’t even done nearly enough studies on that. One Swiss study in mice says after 3 generations the mice are becoming sterile, that’s a good way to stop the population growth. Read up people it scares the hell out of me. The proof that the GMO is going to feed the world and cost less they have sold that line of goods to the farmers and they have proven the bottom line is not it is taking more chemicals to grow these things and Big Brother is eating Organic.

I just afraid “Big Brother” aka Monsanto will eat me. The concentration of ownership of the food supply should concern anyone other than the owners of Monsanto and it’s privately owned corporate brethren.
