Potato Production Down In U.S., Canada

The 2010 fall potato production for the U.S. and Canada combined is estimated at 458 million cwt, down 7% from 2009.

According to reports from Statistics Canada and USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, the U.S. fall potato production is estimated at 361 million cwt, 8% below 2009. Canada’s potato growers harvested 97 million cwt, down 4% from 2009.

Potato production in 2010 was the lowest of the decade, according to the report. The second-lowest was 379 million cwt. in 2008.
