Many a fine wine can be paired with different foods to achieve an optimal balance that excites the senses. With this in mind, the creative folks at Pizza Hut recently released its very own “pizza wine.” Yes, you read that correctly. The longtime company known for its signature pan pizzas and breadsticks has uncorked a “unique, limited-edition tomato wine that captures the essence of your favorite slice in every sip.”

So, what’s in Pizza Hut’s new tomato wine? According to the company, it is crafted from ripe, juicy tomatoes and infused with natural basil. And the perfect pairing for this wine? A slice of pizza, of course. “The wine offers an aromatic blend of fresh herbs and spices with rich, sun-ripened tomato notes, and a subtle hint of toasted oak – reminiscent of a perfectly baked pizza crust,” reads part of a news release. “While crafted from tomatoes, the wine delivers a tasting similar to a white wine when enjoyed chilled.”

The new “Tomato Wine by Pizza Hut” is made possible thanks to a partnership with Lawrence, KS-based Irvine’s Just Beyond Paradise Winery. At the time of this post, the family-owned vineyard was experiencing high demand for the novel wine selection. Posted front and center on the winery’s website reads: “Tomato Wine by Pizza Hut is currently sold out, but you can join the waitlist for future batches.”

Since word has gotten out, it might be difficult to get your hands on this limited-edition wine. While it might not be everyone’s cup of tea (err, wine), I gotta give credit for taking wine pairing to a new level. Cheers!
