Most everyone knows that California is the No. 1 producer of vegetables in the U.S., but did you know that Wisconsin is No. 2 in spite of decreased acreage for some other top crops? The Associated Press reported that Wisconsin is the leader in growing snap peas for processing, producing 40% of the U.S. crop with about 327,000 tons in 2008.
According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Wisconsin is now in second place with its production of processing sweet corn. Last year, the state was reported to have produced almost 652,000 tons.
