What Farm Marketers Plan To Grow In 2016 [Infographic]

We asked fruit and vegetable direct marketers which crops they are growing and if their 2016 production will increase or decrease, and we found some interesting results.

For almost every crop, a slim majority of growers report that they were holding steady in their production levels this year. Only two crops of the top 15 (five fruit and 10 vegetable crops) were shy of that 50% mark — 47% of pome fruit and berry growers. But they were also the two with the highest increases in production: 43% and 48% respectively, which means more berry growers are increasing production than holding steady.

In the infographic below, the crops are listed from those most commonly grown by farm marketers to the least most commonly grown.

Take a look at the results below and see how your own plans match up with your peers.

I can see how some growers will stay the same, as they have no more land to farm, or will decrease production of some crops to grow more of other crops, but of those increasing production, how much of an increase over last years production should we expect to be available to markets….too much of a crop will glut the market place and prices on these goods will fall, on the other hand I understand that the population is ever expanding and some increase of certain crops is needed….will growers have any advanced knowledge of how much to increase production with out flooding the markets ?
