Pillar Of California Grape Industry Dies

Bob McInturf, a longtime pillar of some of California’s grower-owned cooperatives, passed away in Rocklin, CA, on Thursday, May 2. He was 93.

McInturf started farming in Madera and Fresno counties in 1946 and had continued farming until recently when he sold his vineyards and retired. In 1951, he became one of the original incorporators of Allied Grape Growers and later became the first president, serving for three decades.

He served on many boards, including Sun Maid Raisin Growers, Agricultural Council of California, National Council of Farm Cooperatives, California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG), San Joaquin Valley Winegrowers Association, and was past Chairman of the Agricultural Foundation of California State University, Fresno. He also served on the Agricultural Advisory Committee of the University of California. Besides being on the Board of Directors at CAWG, he was also one of its founders.

McInturf is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rosalie McInturf; his son, Stan, and his wife Dianne, and his daughter, Cindy Rubio, and her husband David.
