Copper Injury And Bacterial Spot Are Easily Confused

In her latest bulletin for tree fruit growers, Kari Peter of Penn State University Extension says it is easy to confuse the symptoms of bacterial spot and copper injury on stone fruit.

“Over the last several weeks, many folks have been spraying copper to combat bacterial spot on peach and nectarine,” she writes. “Not only have we had excellent bacterial spot conditions these last several weeks, but the conditions have been slow drying thereby exacerbating the effects of copper phytotoxicity.”

Peter notes that the leaves of stone fruit are more sensitive to copper sprays.
