870 Planter Maintenance

For best performance and seed singulation, Stanhay 870 belt planters must be properly maintained. The condition of the base plate and the metering belt are critical to the proper operation of the metering unit. According to the largest Stanhay dealer in North America, these are the Number 1 and 2 critical wear points in the metering unit. Another critical wear point is the tire on the repeller wheel. As these components wear, the planter will drop more doubles or multiple seeds instead of singles.

In crops that are thinned, such as lettuce, thinning labor requirements go up rapidly as the number of seeded doubles or triples increases. This additional thinning time adds to per acre production costs.
