Nearly 1,000 Attend Organic Grower Summit

The Organic Grower Summit, a joint production between California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) and Organic Produce Network (OPN), drew nearly 1,000 to the second-annual conference, held Dec. 12-13 in Monterey, CA.

The conference this year for the first time included the “CannaBus Tour,” an exclusive opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at the Monterey County cannabis industry. This limited tour included visits to Pacific Reserve, an EnviroCann-certified state-of-the-art, indoor cannabis growing operation and Indus, a vertically integrated cannabis extraction and manufacturing facility.

CCOF and OPN honored long-time organic grower Thaddeus “Thad” Barsotti of Farm Fresh To You as the recipient of the Organic Grower Summit’s Grower of the Year. Barsotti was selected based on his ongoing commitment and dedication to excellence in organic production and organic industry leadership and innovation.

Barsotti is co-CEO of Farm Fresh To You, a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and home delivery service that provides fresh, local, organic produce to consumers’ doorsteps. He also heads up farm management for Capay Organic and is active in growing and maintaining over 60 varieties of organic fruit and vegetable crops.

The Organic Grower Summit offered numerous additional educational sessions, including “Scaling Up Healthy Soil Practices,” and “Sustainable Investing in Your Organic Farming Future.”
