Solar stress conditions such as sunburn, sunscald, and heat stress can destroy a crop. Tracking global conditions, the new Plant Performance Almanac (PPA), a solar stress monitor with free (for a limited time) Web-based service, helps growers around the world make better informed crop management decisions by keeping them informed of climatic conditions that can lead to solar stress in crops. Available on the Web, with optional eMail and SMS alerting, the PPA helps grower subscribers avoid costly sun damage by knowing when to apply preventive solar crop protection.
Developed in conjunction with hydrology and climate expert Dr. Eric Wood from Princeton University, the PPA intelligently considers independent factors that when combined, cause solar stress in crops.
“Leveraging new technologies is essential for growers, especially with continued climatic changes. When we created this unique, new tool, we looked at how best to enhance crop protection decisions in an easy, user-friendly manner,” said Dr. Wood.
Visually rich and easy to use, subscribers have access to a full range of metrics including historical, current, and forecasted indexes, and have the option to subscribe to smart notifications with location-specific alerts. The PPA intelligently combines temperature, radiant heat, and ultraviolet stress indexes with proprietary algorithms that consider environmental variables that cause solar damage in crops.
