The Association gives the annual scholarships in memory of Rudolph Grob of Millersville, PA, who served the Association for 50 years as a director, secretary/treasurer; and manager of the Association’s Farm Show Booth.

Grob was a horticulture graduate of Penn State University who was employed for many years at Funks Farm Market in Millersville. The funds for the scholarship are generated by a portion of the interest earned by the Association’s Keystone Fund, an endowment-type fund created by the voluntary extra dues paid by the Keystone Members of the Association.

Metrick, is the daughter of Ken and Cathy Metrick who operate Harvest View Farm in Mount Chestnut, PA. She is in her third year studying horticulture and business at Pennsylvania College of Technology. She has been actively involved in the family’s farm operation which includes production of various fruits and vegetables for their retail farm market. At college, she has been named to the Dean’s List and is active in the Horticulture Club. This past summer she worked as an intern at Nelson’s Heirloom Gardens in Mercer, PA.

Hetherington, represents the seventh consecutive generation to live in the farm house built by her great-great-great-grandfather. She is the daughter of Boots and Robin Hetherington who operate B&R Farms in Ringtown, PA. She helps to organize and manage the labor crew which consists of local high school and college students and monitors two irrigation systems. Hetherington was accepted into the Schryer’s Honor College Program at Penn State, majoring in Food Science, and plans to complete a minor in Horticulture. As part of an international study program she traveled with other College of Ag Sciences students to France this spring to study European horticulture.
