No illnesses were reported.

The onions bore the brand names Omo and Fu Choy and were handled by distributors in San Francisco, Detroit and East Point, Ga, according to TheCalifornian.com.

The affected lots numbered 40550707 and 40510707 were produced July 20-21 and are already past their 14-day window for use, NewStar President Mark Drever told The Californian. They should already be off store shelves; the recall is a precautionary measure.

The onions were farmed by a company grower in Mexicali, Mexico, near the California border.
