Each year, we check on everything from production to labor through our State of the Vegetable Industry Survey. We then share the results with you so you can make more informed choices going forward. And your information guides our team. It helps us prioritize the issues that are most important to you. With the information you share, we can track down experts, seek solutions, and deliver tools to help you do what you do best.

Watch for the results in our July edition of American Vegetable Grower magazine and on GrowingProduce.com.

Specific information you share will be held in confidence, but will give us a window into how the industry as a whole is faring.

What We Learned Last Year

In the previous State of the Vegetable Industry Survey, we learned a whopping 84% of you endured an extreme weather event — a jump from the 61% who reported the same thing the two years prior. With your help, we’ll find out just how widespread extreme weather was in 2019.

We also learned harvest levels softened. When we looked at how many growers reported minor increases and decreases in harvest levels, the number of growers held steady when compared to the two prior years. But when we look at how many growers had strong swings in their harvest numbers, the trends broke the wrong way.

Compared to the previous two years, there were a lot fewer growers saying they had sharp increases in harvests. And a lot more reported significant decreases. So the number of growers with good trends went down, and the number with bad trends went up.

How will the most recent season compare? We’ll only find out after you and your peers share your information.

We Invite Everyone to Participate

The State of the Vegetable Industry Survey isn’t just for growers. Researchers, suppliers, and others associated with the vegetable industry have questions specifically designed for them.

Please take the survey and submit your thoughts and comments by the end of March.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on the state of our industry!
