Welcome To The 2014 Vegetable Variety Trials

It’s that time of year again.

American Vegetable Grower editors Lauren Alexander and Rosemary Gordon hit the road and attended several variety trials this summer
and fall.

We walked through the fields moving from crop to crop with cameras in tow, capturing photos of some of the latest vegetable offerings as well as a few of the tried-and-true varieties. We also identified what attributes these varieties offer you — and the consumer.

This year, we focused on variety trials in the Northeast. From Bejo Seeds in New York to Seedway in Pennsylvania to Rupp Seeds in Ohio to Syngenta in Michigan, we got the scoop on the latest great-tasting tomatoes, disease-resistant peppers, a new pink onion, and a broccoli variety that is suitable for summer production in the Northeast — just to name a few.
