Bursting Watermelons

Watermelons in China have been bursting, thanks to growers applying too much a growth chemical during wet weather. State media called the melon fields “land mines.”

According to an Associated Press article, about 20 growers around Danyang city in Jiangsu province were impacted, losing up to 115 acres. The growers with exploding melons were first-time users of the growth accelerator, forchlorfenuron.
