Micromite is a selective insecticide for control of key fruit and tree pests including Asian citrus psyllid (ACP), citrus rust mites, the citrus root weevil complex, citrus leaf miners, citrus peelminer, katydids and grasshoppers. With a unique mode of action and long residual, Micromite starts controlling pests at the egg stage and lasts through multiple life stages.

“This is great news for California citrus growers,” says Darin Allred, Agriphar Crop Solutions technical sales support specialist based in Sacramento, CA. “Micromite is a powerful tool to control ACP and help reduce the spread of Huanglongbing, or citrus greening disease.”

Micromite offers growers a number of benefits including a short preharvest spraying interval of seven days and a reduced retreatment interval for full-rate applications of 30 days. “Since Micromite is easy on beneficial insects and pollinators, this gives growers the ability to develop spray strategies to better protect new flush and effectively control ACP and other key citrus pests,” notes Allred.

Micromite’s unique mode of action greatly decreases the number of insects that reach the harmful adult stage, protecting crops against damage throughout the growing season. Micromite also impacts female ACP and citrus weevil fertility, so fewer eggs hatch and reach adulthood.

The Micromite label features:

– A preharvest interval of seven days.

– A retreatment interval for the three full-rate applications of 30 days. Split applications may be applied, but 30 days must elapse before subsequent applications can be made

– A wide inclusion of citrus crops including lemons and limes and 26 other citrus fruits and their cultivars, varieties or hybrids.

Furthermore, the product is easy on beneficial insects and pollinators, including adult honey bees and worker brood, and there is no bee restriction on the label. This means Micromite easily fits into an integrated pest management program because it is a good tank-mix partner.

For example, growers can time applications around bloom when the bees are working, meaning applicators can spray it exactly when the pests are most vulnerable or to coincide with a new flush. “Still, it is important to follow best management practices for spray applications with regard to beneficial insects and pollinators,” says Allred.

When using Micromite and other crop protection products, always read and follow label directions for rates, crops and specifics of pest and disease claims.
