Florida Agriculture Uses Legos To Build Unique Partnership

Adam Putnam Opens Legoland Exhibit

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam planted the final citrus tree at Legoland Florida’s Fresh From Florida Greenhouse last week, completing the project and signaling the opening of the new attraction. The Fresh From Florida Greenhouse, a result of a partnership between the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) and Legoland Florida, aims to educate visitors about where their food comes from and promote healthy eating.

“The Fresh From Florida Greenhouse engages visitors in the process of growing produce from seed to harvest,” said Commissioner Putnam. “Through the Fresh From Florida Greenhouse, we hope to educate the public about where their food comes from and encourage them to choose locally-grown, nutritious foods to support their health, as well as the health of Florida’s agriculture industry.”

At Legoland, Florida’s Fresh From Florida Greenhouse, visitors can explore a Florida farm from seed to harvest through a variety of hands-on and visual displays that demonstrate the six stages of production – seeding, sowing, watering, tending, harvesting and serving.

Visitors will also learn why natural resources – like water and nutrients – are essential to crops and what animals – like cows and bees – play a role in providing foods served at tables across the nation.

The 5,400 square foot greenhouse is located near the park’s main entrance.
