New Intern Fruit Sales Program In Washington

FirstFruits Marketing of Washington has created a new intern program in the sales department which has been implemented in recent months.

The sales intern program consists of year-long training which will take candidates through various modules encompassing all aspects of sales and operations. In the beginning, interns will spend two-week rotations on the packing line, orchard operations, in the warehouse, with shipping and receiving, and also transportation logistics. Once the first modules are mastered, interns move on to more specifically sales related modules such as category management, marketing, direct customer relationships, and negotiations. The program affords opportunity for feedback and corrective actions throughout each module. Interns must have the approval of specific members of the team before moving on to the next module.

Dorothy Koboski is one of the first to go through the sales intern program. She will spend most of a year in transitional training to understand all aspects of growing, packing, warehousing, and selling before graduating into actual sales responsibility.

“We are very pleased to have implemented this program,” remarked Keith Mathews, CEO of FirstFruits Marketing. “This will give us the ability to have well-rounded sales people who understand all aspects of the business and are able to give superior service to our customers. Dorothy is a very talented sales assistant and we are confident she will make the transition well.”

Koboski has worked for FirstFruits for about two-and-a-half years as a sales assistant, and had previously held various retail management positions around the Seattle area. Wanting to return to her hometown of Yakima, Koboski decided to get into produce sales. Her persistent requests for more responsibility and advancement paid off with this new opportunity.
