Virtual Wine Tasting

There isn’t anything new about hosting a wine tasting, but in Oregon last week, a wine tasting even had many of its participants sipping pinot noir half a world away in Hong Kong.

Even the technology of videoconferencing isn’t new, but as the Oregon Statesman Journal points out, the technology was put to use in a novel way.

Three Oregon winemakers participated: Willamette Valley, Ken Wright Cellars, and EIEIO & Co.

Live from Hong Kong, a group of wine distributors, retailers, sommeliers, government officials, and a few journalists took part in the event. It was organized by the U.S. Commercial Service, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the participating wineries, and FedEx.
