Built-In Protection in Performance Sweet Corn Series

This fall, sweet corn growers will have access to new technology in two varieties they are familiar with. The Seminis Performance Series Sweet Corn hybrids will provide biotechnology traits that will offer control of above and below ground lepidopteran and coleopteran pests (corn earworm, fall armyworm, European corn borer, and corn rootworms). In addition, the hybrids will have the Roundup Ready trait, making them tolerant to over-the-top applications of glyphosate.
The Bt and herbicide-tolerant traits will be available in the current Obsession and Passion sweet corn varieties. The product features the same taste and nutritional value of the original hybrids. The technology will provide growers with the potential of increased production and a reduction in insecticide usage. Growers in field corn have had access to Bt and Roundup Ready technology for more than a decade, but this will be the first opportunity for fresh market growers to utilize the technology.
“Seminis Performance Series Sweet Corn is designed to provide growers improved yield potential of high-quality, marketable ears,” said Ernesto La Red, Seminis marketing manager. “We are pleased to offer a new product that promotes more sustainable production by helping growers manage pests and potentially reduce insecticide applications up to 85%, which help conserve resources and protect the environment.”
