Gamma Herbicide Gets Approval for Use on More Specialty Crops

The U.S. EPA has approved a significant label update for Gamma herbicide, adding a wider range of crops.

Gamma herbicide is now approved for use as a nonselective burndown and harvest aid across more crops, including:
• Citrus
Grapes
• Pome and stone fruits
• Tree nuts
• Ornamental nursery crops
• Directed sucker control in perennial crops

Gamma is a next-generation Group 14 PPO-inhibiting herbicide formulated as a water-dispersible granule (WDG). It is designed for nonselective burndown and is labeled for directed post-emergent applications in various crops.

Powered by the active ingredient tiafenacil, Gamma inhibits the PPO enzyme critical to chlorophyll formation, leading to rapid cell membrane breakdown and visible herbicidal effects within 24 hours. This fast-acting mode of action makes Gamma highly effective on a broad spectrum of emerged broadleaf and grass weeds, including many herbicide-resistant species.

Key attributes include:
• Ultra-low use rates for minimal environmental impact
• Rainfast within one hour of application
• Broad tank mix compatibility with glyphosate, glufosinate, and other herbicides
• No soil residual activity
• Labeled for use in grapes, citrus, pome and stone fruits, tree nuts and non-crop areas

Gamma has been validated in hundreds of North American trials, demonstrating consistent burndown efficacy and crop safety. It is particularly valuable for vineyard and orchard systems where weed competition can significantly impact yield and quality.
