Smartphone Apps For Ag
TankMix
DuPont Crop Protection’s TankMix app allows users to easily calculate the amount of product needed to treat a specific field area and apply to a specific tank size. In addition, it can figure the amount of water needed to treat a specific field area, or the amount of product to get the desired volume-to-volume ratio. This free app offers a wide selection of units of measurement and allows information to be entered using both decimals or fractions.

Mobile Ag Tank Mix Calculator
The Mobile Ag Tank Mix Calculator from Marrone Bio Innovations offers growers and applicators a free, easy-to-use tool that can calculate optimal ratios of up to any three pesticide products mixed together in a spray tank. By inputting the tank capacity, total area for treatment, and proper rates of products to be applied, the app figures out proper volumes of each product for each tank fill, the number of tank mixes needed to cover the area, and the total amount of product needed to cover the entire area.

Irrigation Manager
The PureSense Irrigation Manager allows 24/7 access to timely, accurate data for each and every one of a grower’s climate/moisture monitoring stations or irrigation sets. With a single tap of the screen in the “Charts” feature, growers can view the same information used to support irrigation decisions every day on the farm. The application allows for the analysis of charting trends for up to a year. With a simple swipe, users can do the same for all other sites without ever leaving the charting tool. In addition, an “Alerts” feature supports viewing of all recent moisture- or weather-related alerts.

iPest
The iPest app, developed by the University of Florida, is designed to be a mobile field guide for anyone dealing with pests. The app features an easy-to-navigate searchable menu of pests by types and allows users to find and identify insects of interest and concern. A guide provides detailed, high-quality photographs that can be viewed in fit-to-screen, actual size in silhouette, and expanded-view formats. Each pest has a “Facts” section that provides vital information, including biology, behavior, habitat, and distribution. The iPest1 version of the app covers urban pest. Next generations of the app (iPest2: specific to ants, stored product beetles, termites, and other wood destroying organisms and iPest3: biting, stinging and bloodsucking arthropods) will be available later this year.
