The developers of the solid set canopy delivery system, featured in the cover story of American/Western Fruit Grower’s February 2013 issue, have released a new report updating the recent progress they have made. The interdisciplinary team from Michigan State University, Washington State University, and Cornell University has been hoping the system will have multiple uses for tree fruit producers. The researchers’ long-term goal is to help growers better manage chemical inputs, improve pest and crop management, and reduce labor and fuel costs, thereby enabling tree fruit producers to remain globally competitive and environmentally responsible. The new report addresses design configurations, coverage, pest management efficacy, fruit production management, and current outreach efforts.
