Learning Opportunity: Tree Fruit Workshops

Two tree fruit workshops slated to be held Saturday, March 16, or Saturday March 23, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Reisinger’s Apple Country in Watkins Glen, NY. This workshop is a joint venture with the Cornell Cooperative Extension offices of Schuyler and Steuben counties.

Topics to be covered include grafting onto an older tree; pruning stone fruits, pears, apples and berries; pruning younger to mature trees; and renovating an older fruit tree for better production.

Reisinger’s Apple Country is a 50-acre orchard and U-pick with over 10,000 apple trees. The operation is owned by Rick Reisinger. He and his family began planting the orchards in 1994. The Reisingers grow apples, peaches, pears, plums, cherries, nuts and berries.
